"Tuko Flow fluoroplastic Highly Transparent Film Material" Wins the Good Design Award 2020!

  • 2020/10/12

Hello, this is Chukoh Chemical Industries.

This time, our "ChukohSky™ fluoroplastic Material" won the Good Design Award 2020.
The other day's column However, as we announced, "Hand-tearable fluoroplastic adhesive tape" and "Colored fluoroplastic oven sheet"
Unfortunately we were not able to win the award, but this is our long-awaited first Good Design Award for our highly translucent film material.

ChukohSky™ fluoroplastic Highly Transparent Film Material

Conventional fluoroplastic membrane materials have been adopted as roofing membrane materials for many stadiums and arenas because they have properties such as self-cleaning properties that allow dirt on the surface to be washed away by rainwater, excellent Weatherability, light weight, high strength, non-flammability, and light translucency.
In this environment, sports such as soccer and rugby are played on natural grass fields, but there was an issue that the roofing materials covering the spectator seats blocked sunlight and affected the growth of the grass.

Current white fluoroplastic roofing membrane materials, unlike metal roofing membrane materials, allow 13% of sunlight to pass through, creating a bright space in the daytime without the need for lighting. However, there are concerns that the roofing membrane materials may still block sunlight and affect the growth of grass.
There are roofing membrane materials that have a high light transmittance of 90% for the fluorofilm alone, but their strength is low and there are concerns as to whether they can withstand the stresses of strong winds and heavy rains from typhoons, which are getting bigger every year in recent years.

Therefore, we have tackled this issue by pooling all of our knowledge and experience, and by integrating a mesh-like reinforcing base material with a high opening rate with a highly transparent fluoroplastic film, we have succeeded in achieving a dramatically high light transmittance of 50% while maintaining strength.

The judges also praised the design for "combining the excellent properties fluoroplastic, such as Weatherability, light weight, high strength, and non-flammability, with the growth of grass."

We will continue to strive to create products that will improve our lives and society.
