Volunteer employees from our Matsuura Factory participated in the "Marine Debris Zero Week 2021" organized by the Ministry of the Environment, and cleaned up the beaches in Chokawa-cho and Imabukuro-cho, Matsuura City, Nagasaki Prefecture, where the factory is located, over two separate days.

We have designated June as Environmental Month every year (a month recommended by the Ministry of the Environment), and as part of our community service activities, we have picked up trash on roads, parks, and beaches around the factory. This year, we cleaned up as part of "Zero Marine Debris Week 2021," organized by the Ministry of the Environment and the Nippon Foundation.

In previous years, the main activities were cleaning up the Maehama Coast near the F2 Factory (Chokawa Town) and the roads around the F1 Factory (Imabukuro Town), but this year the focus was on cleaning up the coast, and they also picked up trash on the coast in front of Matsuura City Baseball Stadium near the F1 Factory.

Comments from employees who participated in Zero Marine Garbage Week

Matsuura City is a thriving fishing town, so there are a lot of styrofoam fishing buoys, and their surfaces have already deteriorated into powder. By picking them up, we hope to have made a small contribution to preventing the dumping of microplastics into the ocean.
As a responsible local company, we will continue to carry out activities that contribute to the local community and the global environment.

What is Zero Marine Garbage Week 2021?

"Marine Debris Zero Week 2021" is a nationwide clean-up campaign organized by the Ministry of the Environment and the Nippon Foundation.

It is said that the amount of marine litter, including plastic, will exceed the amount of fish by 2050. In order to take immediate action, the Ministry of the Environment and the Nippon Foundation are jointly promoting a nationwide cleanup campaign under the slogan "Zero Marine Litter."
